The two days of testing at Misano have convinced Maverick Viñales not to wait until next season to get on the Aprilia for a MotoGP World Championship race. The Roses rider will race with the Italian brand from the Aragon GP on September 12 and will replace Lorenzo Savarori for the remainder of the 2021 season, as confirmed by the team itself.

Savadori becomes a test driver for the Noale brand in 2022 and will play a wild card this season. Meanwhile, Maverick Viñales will occupy the Aprilia box from MotorLand as a partner of Aleix Espargaró, who gave the brand its first podium in MotoGP last British GP.

"We are very proud to announce our plans for this season and for 2022 with the aim of optimizing the contribution of our three riders as much as possible. Together with our confirmed rider Aleix, it is a pleasure to welcome the Aprilia Racing team to a talented athlete like Maverick, who has shown a great feeling with the team and the bike from the first moment and I am sure that he will be able to give the best of himself already at the GP of Aragon. At the same time, we also confirm the Lorenzo's role as 2022 test driver, who will end the 2021 season taking advantage of the wild cards that we will decide together as soon as he is back to 100% of his physical form ", says Massimo Rivola, CEO of Aprilia Racing.

"The decision to have Maverick on the track from Aragon is a direct result of the tests carried out at Misano. It was not a fact that, after a race so far on a motorbike with an inline engine, Maverick had a good feeling with our V4 straight away. So the test on this track, historically not easy for our bike, was an important time of evaluation. Therefore, we are satisfied with the immediately positive reactions from Maverick, who showed a good feeling both with the bike. RS-GP as with the team and our working method. His talent and that of Aleix, combined with the experience that Lorenzo has acquired this season, make us optimistic about the future of our MotoGP project ", says Romano Albesiano, director Aprilia technician.
