Tony Gallopin returns to Trek-Segafredo eight years later

The French rider returns to the team where he became known after his stints at Lotto-Soudal and AG2R-Citröen in the last eight seasons.

The Trek-Segafredo team announced this Wednesday the return for the next season of French cyclist Tony Gallopin. At 33, Gallopin signs for Trek for the next two seasons and returns to the team where he became known in the peloton almost eight years later.

Gallopin, who during his time at RadioShack won the Clásica de San Sebastián in 2013, has competed the last eight seasons between Lotto-Soudal, where he won a stage and came to wear the yellow jersey of leader in the Tour de 2014, and in the AG2R Citröen, where he managed to win a stage in the 2018 Vuelta and the general of the Estrella de Bessèges that same year. From Trek-Segafredo they point out that Gallopin "will have a double role in the team: guiding our young talents and fighting for results when the opportunity appears" .

A role that Gallopin himself has already assumed as stated in statements collected by the team. "I am very happy. It is very nice that the Trek-Segafredo trusts me. I know a lot of people, various directors, riders and staff members. It is not a new team for me because I was already here in 2012 and 2013. I will enjoy it and it will also give me a lot of motivation for next year. I have been unlucky these last two years, so I want to regain my best level and find the determination to fight for victories. Despite these difficult years, it is good for the team to believe in me because I am sure that I will fight in the big races. It will be a new role for me. I am 33 years old, a lot of experience and next season will be my fifteenth year as a professional. I spoke with Luca (Guercilena) and the team has many young talents to whom that I can help, so sometimes I can take the role of captain, "he said.
