Spain kicks off the MTB World Championship with the Team Relay test

The Spanish team kicks off its participation in the Mountain Biking World Championship on Wednesday, August 25 at 12:30.

The Val di Sole Mountain Biking World Championship will take place from 25 to 29 August. In it, events of different disciplines such as Cross Country, Downhill, Four-Cross, E-MTB, Short Track and Team Relay will be held.

The latter opens the MTB World Championship, and the Spanish team has already announced its participants for this first relay event. Under the direction of the national coach, Mikel Zabala, David Campos (U23), Aniol Morell (junior), Lucía Gómez (U23), Sara Méndez (junior), Nuria Bosch (U23) and the brand new Olympic medalist David Valero, they will compete each lap in the same order.

The race will start at 12:30 p.m., and each runner will complete a lap of the 4-kilometer circuit of the Bike Park of Val di Sole, in which they will accumulate about 190 meters of positive elevation gain per turn. The Spanish National Team will try to improve the tenth place achieved in 2020, with Carlos Coloma at the head, and will fight to once again rub shoulders with the best national teams and recover the good feelings after the European dispute in Novi Sad, where they also finished in tenth position after suffering various mechanical problems.Van der Poel will not be present

The Dutchman Mathieu Van der Poel will not finally attend the World Championship, as he is still suffering from severe back pain caused by the hard fall he suffered at the Tokyo Olympics.

"Mathieu has been dealing with back pain in recent weeks. Although the situation is improving, the Mountain Bike World Championships in Val di Sole are coming too early for him," they said from the Dutchman's team Alpecin Fenix.

Now all eyes are on Mathias Flückiger and Nino Schurter as the main favorites to win.
