Sagan signs for TotalEnergies

The Slovak, triple world champion, leaves Bora and signs for the next two seasons, 2022 and 2023, with the French team.

The first bomb in the cycling market exploded, one that will trigger numerous transfers around it, as AS explained with the market opening on August 1. Peter Sagan, determined not to renew his contract with Bora, will join a French squad for the next two seasons, 2022 and 2023: TotalEnergies, Second. The Slovak, triple world champion, is looking for new challenges at the age of 31. "The most important thing is not the current state of the team, but what we are going to do with it," says Sagan. “I know that Jean-René Bernaudeau (the manager) wants to go to the elite. I'll be sure to help you. The fact that TotalEnergies is not on the World Tour today is not a problem for me. I intend to collaborate so that it becomes a great structure ”. The contract stipulates two more optional campaigns.

Winner of the Tour of Flanders (2016) and the Paris-Roubaix (2018), Sagan has 118 professional successes. He will be accompanied by two loyal squires, Daniel Oss and Maciej Bodnar, its director, masseur, mechanic and press officer, and two sponsors, Specialized and Sportful, who will support TotalEnergies with their salary. Sagan explains in L'Équipe that he would like to complete his calendar starting in 2022 with gravel and mountain bike events, apart from focusing on monuments and hunting stages in each competition in which he enters: “I arrive hungry and there is still a lot of Sagan ahead. ”
