Pape Diop, muscle and veteran for the Ibiza core

The Ibiza club announces the signing of the veteran midfielder, with extensive experience in the First and Second Division. His previous club was Eibar.


UD Ibiza announced this Friday the signing of Senegalese midfielder Papakouly, 'Pape', Diop, a 35-year-old player who arrives on the island after not remaining at Eibar, a club with which he finalized his contract on June 30 and in which He played the last seasons in the First Division. The footballer, who develops in the pivot position, comes to contribute muscle and veterancy to the core of the Ibizan team, with which he has committed for the current season 21-22, the first that the islanders play in LaLiga SmartBank.

Diop, who also has French nationality, has participated in 320 matches in the Spanish First Division (scoring 12 goals) and in 42 in the Second Division (with a record of four goals). In Spain he has played for clubs such as Nástic de Tarragona, Racing de Santander, Levante, Espanyol and the aforementioned Eibar. Now he joins UD Ibiza. In addition, he has been an international under-17, under-21 and absolute with the Senegal teams.

The signing of Diop thus joins other incorporations, which are already a total of ten in Ibiza. Before Kevin Appin, Miki Villar, Mateusz Bosgusz, Álex Gálvez, Miguel Cifuentes, Álex Domínguez, Miguel Ángel Guerrero, Cristian Herrera and Sergio Castel arrived (the latter already owned after having played on loan from Atlético de Madrid the previous year).
