The recent winner of the Vuelta a Burgos, Mikel Landa, will be the leader of the Bahrain Victorious in the 76th edition of the Vuelta a España in his quest to reach one of the podium places in the last great race of the 2021 cycling calendar.

The Spaniard has just been proclaimed champion of the Vuelta a Burgos, where the Vuelta will start this Saturday the 14th with an individual time trial of 8 kilometers. After his absence from the Tour de France due to a fall in the Giro that forced him to leave, the Alava will return to the route par excellence in Spain, in which he has not run since 2015.

Gorazd Stangelj, director of Bahrain, says that “we are going to the Vuelta with Mikel Landa as the leader after a promising result in Burgos. We want to finish the test on the podium but our ambition is to win La Vuelta and we want to fight for that. ”

The rest of the team that will accompany the Spaniard will be made up of climbers Jack Haig, Mark Padun, Wout Poels and the second classified of the Giro 2021, Damiano Caruso. The team will be completed by Yukiya Arashiro, Jan Tratnik and Gino Mäder.

“We also have a great team where each rider is capable of winning a stage of the race. So, as long as we protect Mikel and help him, we will have to be opportunistic with the stages in which our team has a chance to win, ”says Stangelj.
