The Belgian sprinter from Alpecin, a team that already has 25 victories this season, won on the opening day of the Tour del Benelux.

Tim Merlier, a 28-year-old Belgian sprinter, is in a state of grace in the present 2021. The Alpecin rider achieved his eighth triumph of the season on the opening day of the Benelux Tour, including a stage in the Giro and another on the Tour, in his debut in the two great rounds. Merlier was the best in the arrival of Dokkum, in which he surpassed Phil Bauhaus, Álvaro Hodeg and Fernando Gaviria. The strong wind and fans marked the stage, and Remco Evenepoel, the top seed, who was in the lead and suffered a puncture, left the finish line for more than two minutes.

With Merlier's eighth target, the Alpecin adds the 25th of a spectacular campaign. Although he belongs to the Second Division, thanks to his first position in the European ranking of the International Cycling Union (UCI) in 2020 he had the right to compete in Giro, Tour and Vuelta, and the squad got wet in all three and has a tremendous course, a lot Better than many World Tour formations in both the number and the quality of their hits.
