Joao Almeida wins the Tour of Poland

The one from Caldas da Rainha has managed to win a World Tour event for the first time, after winning two stages of the Vuelta.


The Portuguese Joao Almeida (Deceuninck Quick Step) has claimed the final victory in the Tour of Poland after the last stage between Zabrze and Krakow, with 145.1 kilometers of route, in which the Dutchman Julius van den Berg won the sprint (EF Education Nippo) .

The final day did not change the luck of the general, settled in the time trial on Saturday. Thus, Almeida achieved the victory with twenty seconds ahead of Slovenian Matej Mohoric (Bahrain Victorius) and 27 seconds ahead of Pole Michal Kwatkowski (INEOS Grenadiers) .

The Portuguese from Caldas da Rainha, only 23 years old, manages in this way to win a World Tour event for the first time after his good performances in greats such as the Giro, in which he has been fourth in 2020 and sixth in 2021 and others Staged rounds.

The peloton, as usual, played the stage triumph at the sprint, in which Van den Berg beat the French Alexis Renard (Israel Start-up) and the American Matteo Jorgenson (Movistar), while the Colombians Álvaro Hodeg (Deceuninck Quick Step) and Fernando Gaviria (UAE-Team Emirates) were fifth and sixth.
