It's back! Beirán will play at Movistar Estudiantes

The Madrid forward (34 years and 2.00 meters) returns to the collegiate team 11 years later. It is the first signing for the season in LEB Oro.

He's back. Movistar Estudiantes announced on Tuesday its first signing: Javier Beirán, pure ACB talent for the hell of the LEB Oro. The Madrid (34 years and 2.00 meters) returns to what was his home 11 years later to try to return to the collegiate team to the elite of Spanish basketball after relegation from the Endesa League for the first time in its 74-year history. Estu was the only team, along with Real Madrid and Joventut, that had played every season between the National League (27) and ACB (38) .

Beirán came to Magariños from the Real Madrid quarry in 2005 to play for the subsidiary. A year later, he was already part of the first team. He played 49 games in ACB. He left in 2010 to succeed far away, as is usual for many boys in the house. His destination, the Canary Islands: six years at Herbalife Gran Canaria in two different stages (the last one very convulsive: he was removed from the team) and five at Lenovo Tenerife, with which he won his only two club titles: one FIBA Champions and an Intercontinental. In addition, he has been international 28 times with Spain and was part of the group that won the World Cup in China in 2019, the second star of the National Team.

The forward is an off-road player. Good in defense and with multiple resources in attack. He can shoot from the perimeter and has a superb posting quality. But, above all, he is intelligent in passing, he has enormous knowledge of the game and experience, and he is a man who knows the house, who can assume responsibilities and be a reference for the group. An indispensable element in a team that no longer has its captain, Édgar Vicedo.

The agreement is for one season, although it can be extended for two more years if the club gets promotion next season, according to Encestando. Beirán's is Pancho Jasen's first official move since he became the club's new general manager in early summer. They both know each other well: they played together at Ramiro for four seasons. And it will not be the only one. In the coming days, Estudiantes will announce more signings to complete a squad that will have Jota Cuspinera as coach and Alberto Lorenzo and Iñaki Martín as assistants. Among the possible names, Nacho Martín and Jhonny Dee. Rubén Domínguez and Héctor Alderete will be part of the first team.

At the exits, the demolition, as expected when descending. Aleksa Avramovic, Alec Brown, Martins Laksa, Ángel Delgado, Nemanja Djrusic, Zeljko Sakic, Aleksandar Cvetkovic, Víctor Artega, Edgar Vicedo and John Roberson were the first. The homegrown players Nacho Arroyo and Dovydas Giedraitis will be next, but on loan to the Lithuanian Canoe and Lietkabelis Panevezys, respectively. Boys from the house like Diego Alderete and Álex Tamayo also closed their stage at the club.
