Guillén:-"I-think-La-Vuelta-is-the-most-exciting-race-in-recent-years"

Javier Guillén, director of the Vuelta, lives the tension of the imminent departure of the round happy to have "the best possible participation" despite the absence of the Slovenian Pogacar and convinced that the 76th edition will maintain sporting interest until the last metro of the final chrono of September 5 in Santiago de Compostela. This hallmark makes the Vuelta "in recent years the most interesting big one" .

- In what health situation is the 76th edition of the Vuelta presented?

- There is still concern about the covid. The situation is different from last year, but we are still in a pandemic and we will maintain the precautions and the same bubble system of the last edition. The incidence is decreasing, but the Vuelta will make a great effort to comply with the sanitary measures to protect the public and the runners. Above all, I ask the public if they go to see the race to do so with a mask. The greatest enemy is relaxation and we are in constant health tension.

- Due to the list of registered participants, the Vuelta starts with brilliance, despite the absence of Pogacar.

- In that aspect I am very happy. The Vuelta will have an extraordinary participation. With the exception of Pogacar, which is normal after winning the Tour de France, the peloton will come out with the best it can have right now. We will have at the start three Olympic champions such as Roglic, Carapaz and Pidcock, the presence of Egan Bernal ... Mikel Landa will also be there after his victory in Burgos, Movistar comes with the best, Romain Bardet ... it can be said that everything what is available we will have.

- The organization always expects excitement until the last kilometer, and the route is made based on that idea.

- Yes, the interest will continue until the end with the chrono of the last day in Santiago, but also the race will be more equaled by the route in relation to other years. Taking into account the Tour and the Olympic Games, the first part of the Vuelta favors the recovery, less demanding, with more options when sprinting, but the last two weeks we will have a Vuelta route in its pure state of maximum demand.

- For many, the Vuelta is the most interesting race in terms of sporting among the big ones, since it is usually decided on the last day. Do you share that idea?

- I think the Vuelta is the most exciting race in recent years. In 2020 it was decided in the end, in La Covatilla. Since 2017 it is the most exciting in terms of the resolution of the general among the big ones.

- What do you have to say to the public who wants to go to see the stages on the road?

- We can only ask the public to go to see the race with a mask and to respect the safety distance. We do not make any more appeals beyond the respect of these sanitary norms.

- Any surprise for the departure from Burgos Cathedral?

- Leaving from the cathedral will already be very special, and then the tour is designed to be one of the most beautiful from a monumental and aesthetic point of view. In terms of postcard it will be a very nice start.
