Gerard wants to close his magical year in Belfast

The Catalan striker has been champion of the Europa League, national top scorer, has played the Eurocup and has renewed with Villarreal until 2027.

Gerard Moreno is the name of Villarreal. The Catalan forward has had a dream year 2021 and tonight he wants to complete his magical week after renewing last Monday with Villarreal practically until the end of his career. The title of the Super Cup would yield an almost perfect course, both individually and collectively, in which he has taken a gigantic leap.Just taking a look at their numbers gives you an idea of the magnitude of the 2020-21 academic year that Catalan has curdled. 30 goals scored, 23 in the League and seven in the Europa League, which earned him the renewal of the honorary title of top national scorer in LaLiga. In addition, from a somewhat more delayed position, he distributed 11 assists to his teammates. In the Eurocup he did not score in play although he did transform his penalty kicks in the rounds against Switzerland and Italy.

Precisely the Eurocup was another of his achievements unlocked in this 2021. First he entered the list of 23 summoned by Luis Enrique and later he started in several matches of the National Team in the maximum continental competition. In fact, their presence in the starting eleven was the subject of debate given the lack of a goal by La Roja in the first matches of the competition.

Tonight Villarreal will play the first Super Cup in their history, a final they have reached after lifting the Europa League trophy, after beating Manchester United on penalties in Gdansk. It was the first title in the history of Villarreal and also in his personal account, in a tournament where he was one of the best players in the competition, scoring seven goals.

His exceptional state of form made him the object of desire of the greats although he had a dissuasive clause of 100 million euros. However, once this season ended, he would have entered his last contract with that entails in terms of the market. That will not happen because Villarreal announced last Monday that they are renewing him until 2027. With this contract extension, Gerard will end up at Villarreal at the age of 35 after 11 seasons dressed in yellow.
