A curious situation arose this Monday in the third stage of the Vuelta a España 2021. Egan Bernal, who finished eleventh at 1'48 '' behind the winner Rein Taaramäe, took the lead in the youth classification but did not appear to the podium to receive the white jersey that identifies him.

The Colombian cyclist did not find out that he was the new leader of the youngsters and that is why he did not attend to receive the jersey at Picón Blanco, nor did his team notify him of the novelty in this classification. After finishing the stage, Egan got off the bus of the British squad to go to the concentration hotel.

The organization of the Vuelta, through the official Twitter of the race, gave its explanation of what happened with Egan. "On the photo of the white jersey: for reasons beyond the organization's control, the runner has not been able to attend the podium ceremony" .

Bernal will not be left without receiving the jersey, it will be delivered to him before stage 4 this Tuesday and he will wear it throughout the 163.6 kilometer day between Burgo de Osma and Molina de Aragón. It will be a special flat race for sprinters.

The owners of the other Vuelta jerseys are Rein Taaramäe (leader's red and blue mountain seeds) and Jasper Philipsen (dotted green). Egan is ninth in the general classification 57 seconds behind the Estonian rider.
