Benzema renews until 2023

Madrid has announced in a statement that the Frenchman extends his contract with the club until June 2023. He extends his commitment to the team for another year.

Now official. Karim Benzema, 33, renews with Real Madrid until June 30, 2023. As pointed out by Diario AS a few days ago, the Frenchman had approved his renewal with Florentino Pérez and today it has been confirmed. Thus, the native of Lyon extends his commitment to the club for another year, since until now his contract ended in 2022. The highlight of the renewal comes from the termination clause: according to L'équipe, 1 billion euros for any team that wants to take the white star.

Everything indicated that Benzema was going to renew with Madrid for months. The Frenchman told his representative that he trusted both the team and Florentino Pérez, so the renewal has been simple: he has not tried to impose years of contract or financial amounts. The attacker himself already announced last season his desire to renew. "If the president wants to renew me, my door is open," said the forward in the second leg of the Champions League against Atalanta.

In this way, Benzema becomes the sixth renewal so far in 2021 for Madrid. He joins colleagues like Modric, Nacho, Carvajal, Lucas Vázquez and Courtois who have renewed in that period of time. Thus, Madrid achieves that more than half of the squad has a contract beyond 2023. Marcelo, Isco, Bale and Modric (who renewed for a year) finish their contracts in 2022. Throughout this season it will be seen if Madrid decides to renew these footballers or release them.
