Bardet resurrects in El Picón

The French cyclist, with podiums in the Tour and in the World Cups, conquers the stage after overcoming a fall. He had not won since 2018. Landa, second overall.

Romain Bardet, one of those riders who in his career has had to endure the pressure of 'hope for French cycling', resurfaced in the Vuelta a Burgos. At 30 years old and in the ranks of the DSM, he once again enjoyed a triumph, something that he had not achieved since 2018, and was placed leader of the race after being the best in a big stage, with ascent and descent to Picón Blanco, a peak that will be on the route of the next Vuelta, where the Frenchman also hopes to demonstrate this improvement.

It was on the climb to the colossus that the race was decided. Bou (Euskaltel), Cabedo (Burgos) and Lazkano (Caja Rural) were the last survivors of the day's escape, but they were caught by the group of favorites. The roosters, commanded by the Bahrain de Landa and the Ineos in which Bernal served as Sivakov's gregarious, began to move. Among them Mikel Nieve and Bouchard, also a strong Romain Bardet, who did not mind quickly taking responsibility for the escape. From behind, Mikel Landa was one of the most attentive, but no one was able to follow the escapees.

And even more so when Bardet, a quality cyclist with podium finishes in the Tour and even in the unforgettable Valverde World Championship in Innsbruck, decided to go all out on the complicated descent of Picón Blanco. So much so that he even went to the ground (also Bouchard), fortunately without consequences, and still with the necessary strength to get back on his bike and reach Espinosa de los Monteros highlighted. Stage, lead, half a race in my pocket and a lot of confidence for La Vuelta. Behind, a Landa that is placed second in the general and gives a very good feeling for La Vuelta, with the crash of the Tour forgotten.
