Charleroi, with a convincing and comprehensive triumph at the Diaz Arena in Ostend, became the first provisional leader of the Belgian league, which got under way this weekend.

It is the first of the traditional competitions of the Old Continent that starts the 2021-22 academic year. He did so on Friday with the draw between Standard Liege and runner-up Genk who avoided defeat in added time with a goal from Theo Bondonga.

However, in the absence of the first day of Sunday being completed with the staging of teams such as the champion, Club Brugge or Anderlecht, another of the candidates, it is Charleroi who took command of the tournament.

Won in Ostend (0-3) with goals from Ivorian Chris Bedia, Anass Zaroury and Joris Kayembe. The goal difference leaves him at the top of the table with a goal advantage over Kortrijk who beat the recently promoted Seraing (2-0) at the Guldensporen stadion thanks to the contribution of Frenchman Teddy Chevalier and Faiz Selemanie.

The session was marked by the suspension of the clash between Beerschot and Circulo Brujas twenty minutes from the end due to the storm that fell on the Antwerp Olympic Stadium that left the field impractical. The clash was stopped with a 1-0 away lead with Olivier Deman's goal.

In addition, Leuven and Waregem tied at one point at Den Dreef Stadium. EFE
