Sam Bird wins in New York and places leader of the World Cup

The Briton prevailed ahead of New Zealander Nick Cassidy and current champion, Portuguese Antonio Félix da Costa.


British driver Sam Bird, from Jaguar Racing, won the second New York ePrix, the eleventh race of the Formula E World Championship, on Sunday and takes the lead in the electric car competition.

Bird won the Brooklyn street circuit from pole ahead of New Zealander Nick Cassidy (Envision Virgin Racing) and reigning Portuguese champion Antonio Félix da Costa (DS Techeetah) .

The victory places Bird at the top of the drivers' standings with 81 points, five more than Da Costa and the Dutchman Robin Frijns (Envision) .

The World Championship continues with two races in London on July 24 and 25.
