The Vuelta a Burgos is announcing throughout the morning the participants for the 2021 edition, which will be held between August 3 and 7. As published by Diario AS on the day the pre-registration of the Getxo-Memorial Hermanos Otxoa Circuit became known, Mikel Landa will be at the starting line of the Castilian race. Burgos is a very special city for him, since he began an average engineering career there, which he does not rule out ending when he hangs up the bike. In addition, his victories as a professional began at that date and he has always been very good at that test. He is very fond of it and his relationship with the organization is very close.

After falling on the fifth stage of the Giro d'Italia and undergoing surgery for a broken collarbone and five ribs, his road book is already marked and he will be close to home. He makes his debut on the 31st in the San Sebastián Classic, he will race the next day at the Getxo Circuit and, two days later, be at the starting line of the Vuelta a Burgos together with Egan Bernal (winner of the Giro), Hugh Carthy ( third in the Vuelta), Simon Yates (third in the Giro) or Iván Sosa, among others, who will accompany him. It is not a bad starting grid since Burgos will once again be, on August 14, the starting point of the 2021 Vuelta, in which Mikel Landa will also be there. Then we will have to see how the year ends, predictably in an Italian race like Lombardy, on October 9. This is his favorite event but he has yet to decide as the Vuelta will mark the great turning point.

The official presentation of the race took place on July 15 but, at that point, it was impossible to know the runners who were going to contest it. 21 teams, more than 800 kilometers and 5 stages. 13 World Tour teams and 8 Pro-Series teams. With 1,168 people participating in the organization, marked by the strictest health protocols to combat COVID-19. The mayor of Burgos Daniel de la Rosa, the president of the César Rico County Council, the General Director of the Tour Javier Guillén, the president of the Spanish Cycling Federation José Luis López Cerrón and the Burgos cyclist Ángel Fuentes participated in the launch. , among others.

The 13 World Tour teams will be Movistar, Bahrain, Astana, GreenEdge, Team Emirates, Qhubeka, AG2-R, Israel, Bora, Education First, Groupama, Ineos and DSM . Los 8 Pro-Series, Alpecin, Burgos, Caja Rural, Euskaltel, Arkea, Total Energies, Eolo Kometa and KernPharma.

The stages

The first stage will depart from the cathedral, which is celebrating its anniversary, and will end, as usual, in the castle of the capital. The second will join Tardajos with Briviesca and will be conducive to a getaway or a flying arrival, the third will be between Busto de Bureba and Espinosa de los Monteros, with the ascent to Picón Blanco. The fourth will be marked, predictably, by a sprint between vineyards starting in Roa and finishing in Aranda de Duero. The Vuelta a Burgos will be decided again in the fifth and final meeting between Comunero de Revenga and Las Lagunas de Neila. There Landa achieved his first milestones as a professional playing for the Euskaltel Euskadi. In the year 2021, terrible for him so far, he will try again.
