Meritorious of the goal in Butarque

While Leganés is looking for a forward in the market, Diego and Manu try to convince Garitano to stay. Sabin's return to the band helps them.

Leganés are looking for a center forward. The desired one, Miguel de la Fuente, is far from a return to Butarque, which to the south of the capital they sense almost impossible. It is time to explore alternatives while time smiles on those at home. Meritorious men such as Manu Garrido or Diego García have now added two and a half weeks of preparation without competition in sight and with the growing illusion of being able to convince Garitano that one of the gaps that a '9' should occupy could be for one of the two .

The club feeds its hope by sliding that, as long as the options for the attack do not close, both will be able to stay if they win it on the field. They are doing it. They slip into the locker room that the kids, plugged in like few others, are unleashed in the goal competition. Every time they can demonstrate the gunpowder of their boots, they try excited by that option to continue.

It is true that for now they have only been able to demonstrate it in training, and not too many. The positives for COVID-19 have forced the coaching staff to prepare more physical sessions than tactics in a fundamentally individual job. Neither have games been played. The debut, projected for yesterday afternoon against Talavera, was suspended. One less chance. It does not matter, repeat the boys, who look at the board of some of these sessions also with some enthusiasm.

Change of system and Sabin to the band

It happens that in some of these exercises, Leganés is deploying with a 4-4-2 and not with a 4-2-3-1. That is, with more spaces to play with several forwards. It is true that Garitano embraces the second system with devotion, but opening the tactical range also feeds the options of the kids, who also see how the only theoretical '9' of the squad exercises edge.

Sabin Merino is in the news in these first sessions for exercising on the left wing, and not as a theoretical striker, a position in which he feels more comfortable. Despite this, and without excesses of men at the ends, Lega uses Urdúliz's as an overflow player, a position in which he reduces pressure and competition for Manu and Diego. The bottom line is that one and the other are the only strikers and they battle each other to attract the attention of the coaches. For convincing Garitano that they can stay among the elders.

Two different paths

They do it from different perspectives. Diego García, for example, is not new for a Garitano who used it in training in the final stretch of last season. He was summoned to six games and played three. Before Logroñés and Málaga in a testimonial way. In the second leg of the playoff against Rayo Vallecano, he had 15 minutes with which he sought the miracle of an unattainable comeback.

Manu Garrido shone in the little he played in the First Division with the pepineros (four games, two starts against Athletic and Real Madrid), but he did not give him to stay in the hyper-populated Blue and White squad of last season, the one that had five battering rams. In exile, Hercules only scored two goals in eleven games. Garitano has not had him under his command until this summer.

On Wednesday, against Rayo Majadahonda, in the ID Butarque (19:00), it will be seen if either of the two part with an advantage in the eleven and if, indeed, Garitano repeats with Sabin Merino in the band as a starting plan for a start of the season in which for now there is no signing to exercise at the top. An unsuccessful search that smiles at the meritorious Leganés, strikers hopeful to stay in the first team.
