Jovic does not come out of the well

The Serbian forward has not started his third season with Real Madrid in the best way. An overload keeps you working outside the group.

Jovic-does-not-come-out-of-the-well

Luka Jovic (23 years old) is having a difficult time at Real Madrid. The Serbian striker (born in Bosnia) has been at a low level for two consecutive seasons, but his intention is to win the trust of Carlo Ancelotti. However, during the first week of the preseason he suffered a strain on his thigh, which has not allowed him to show the Italian manager that he can play an important role this season. In training this Friday, he went back to exercising separately ...

Jovic signed for Real Madrid in the summer of 2019 in exchange for 60 million euros, after having an excellent 2018-2019 season with Eintracht Frankfurt. In Germany, the Serbian played 48 games and scored 27 goals. The Balkan signed a six-year contract, until 2025, and a salary of five million net per season, that is, the forward has a cost for the club of ten million per season. However, in Madrid he has not had the performance that the white entity expected of him, taking into account that he was signed to alleviate the lack of goal that the team suffers since the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo in the summer of 2018. And after 32 games as a white player, he has only scored 2 goals.

In his first season as a Madrid player, he started as a substitute for Karim Benzema, but an injury during the preseason prevented him from reaching the level shown in Germany. He had only a few minutes, which did not allow him to have opportunities to score goals. He only played a full game, it was against Osasuna on September 25, 2019 and his first goal as a Madrid player was on October 30 in the victory against Leganés. The match ended 5-0. He played 17 league games, scored two goals and gave two assists. In the Champions League he only played five games, in which he neither scored nor assisted, in the Copa del Rey he played three games and in the Spanish Super Cup two, without assisting or scoring. In total there were 809 minutes, or what is the same, nine complete games.

In the 2020-2021 season, Zidane did not have the Serbian striker, so he was only able to play five games between the League and the Champions League (in which he did not score any goals) before going on loan in the winter market to Eintracht de Frankfurt. There, he returned to wear the shirt with which a few seasons ago had dazzled Europe. He got off to an exciting start, where he scored three goals in his first three games and seemed to have regained his form, but this was just a mirage. In total, he played 18 games and scored four goals.

The Madrid dilemma

After his return from the loan, the Madrid club still hopes that the Serbian striker will step forward and show his true potential, but the muscle injury suffered last Friday during the preseason only heralds the worst omens for his third season as a Real Madrid player. For now, it is Ancelotti who must decide the role he will have in the team. It must be remembered that it was the Italian coach himself, who already wanted to sign him three years ago in his time as Naples coach. For the transalpine coach, his starting striker is Benzema, but the season is very long and Jovic can have a place in his plans.

The club officers have two options: give him a new opportunity or sell him. The white club does not close the door to a possible transfer, given that the value of Jovic upon his arrival at Real Madrid was around the 60 million euros that the white club paid for him, but now Transfermarkt values his value at 20 million euros. So if they receive a transfer offer for the Balkan player they would think about it, since the sale of the forward could be one of the sources of income to finance some of the only objectives of the summer, which are Kylian Mbappé or Erling Haaland.
