Usman Garuba, power forward for Real Madrid and now with the National Team at the Tokyo Games, was very aware from the Japanese capital of the NBA draft, which was held at dawn from Thursday to Friday in Spanish time. The 19-year-old from Madrid was chosen 23rd in the first round by the Houston Rockets.

These have been their reactions to the news: “The first thing is that I am very happy and grateful to have been drafted. It is a dream. Everyone who knows me knows that it is a dream for me since I was little. I have not been able to sleep much during the night because I was very nervous, but when my name has come out it has relieved me. ”

Garuba has felt very supported by his teammates and, now, until the Games are over, he will focus on achieving an Olympic medal with Spain. His wish, then, is the same, to play in the NBA now: “I am very grateful to La Familia, who has supported me these days here in Tokyo, and to the Houston Rockets, for choosing me. I am happy to be in Tokyo and my head is 100% here. And now we want to fight for the medals. I am proud to have been selected and I am looking forward to going there and giving it my all, as I have always done. ”
