Elvira, solo leader in Newport after matchday two

The Spaniard continues as the leader, now alone and with 11 under par in the total, of the Cazoo Open, a tournament promoted by the Welsh footballer of Real Madrid, Gareth Bale.

The Spanish Nacho Elvira continues as the leader, now alone and with 11 under par in total, of the Cazoo Open, a tournament held at The Celtic Manor Resort in Newport (Wales, United Kingdom) and promoted by the Welsh footballer of Real Madrid , Gareth Bale.

Elvira, who had ten missed cuts in 15 tournaments in 2021 -the last two in a row at the Irish and Scottish Open-, started on Thursday with a lap of 64 (-7) and this Friday he completed all 18 holes with 67 (-4 ), with six birdies for two bogeys to take over solo with 131 totals (11 under par) mid-tournament.

"In general it has been a great round, especially with the wind, which picked up a bit. So I am very happy with four bass," said the Spaniard in statements to the European circuit.

"To be 100% honest, I don't care where I end up. I'm happy with the way I'm trying to turn my game around, especially my mind. So we'll see what lies ahead," he added.The 34-year-old golfer from Santander, who is pursuing his first title on the main continental circuit, leads by two strokes to the Swedish Vicent Norrman, by three to the Japanese Masahiro Kawamura, who this Friday delivered a spectacular 63 (-8) card with which equals the field record; and in four to English Matt Wallace, number 58 of the world.

Alejandro Cañizares, with -2 in the total, occupies the sixteenth place, while Gonzalo Fernández Castaño marches with +1. They do not pass the cut Adrián Otaegui (+3 and because of a bogey in 18), Álvaro Quirós (+6) and Carlos Pigem (+7) .

On the European Challenge circuit, Manuel Elvira, Nacho's brother, occupies second place in the Italian Challenge, in Fubine, one stroke behind the leader, the Frenchman Frederic Lacroix (-12). The Galician Santiago Tarrío is third with -9.
