It is not being a good year for Álvaro Bautista, his second season at Honda in the Superbike World Championship, third in the contest after his debut with Ducati in 2019. The results are not accompanying the Talaverano, nor HRC. In four rounds, with eight races and four sprints, the Golden Wing has yet to taste the podium. His best result is a fourth place from Leon Haslam on the Donington Park short. And the best position of the Spanish is his sixth in race 1 of Misano.

Poor results that mean that this year's objective is no longer to fight for something important, but to detect problems and solve them for 2022 in the following model of the CBR 1000 RR: “Our gap with the pilots in front is a slightly higher than last year, but now there are more riders who are performing well. That is one of the reasons why our results are worse than last year. Although I expected much more for the beginning of the season, nothing can be done about the current situation. We can only keep working and try to be better in the future. It is not that there is one thing that we lack in relation to another. When I'm on the track, the differences with my rivals are very small, but the bike needs to improve in all areas ”, the Talaveran resigned at Speedweek.

Thus, Bautista, Rea's great rival in 2019, as the Turkish Razgatlioglu is now, hopes that the work of collecting information on the Honda will bear fruit in the next season: “The regulations prohibit us from making major changes to the engine. or the chassis. That makes it difficult to progress through the season. We need to collect as much information as possible for the next model so that we can take a big step forward. ”

Bautista acknowledges HRC's difficulties, and points out without complex how he feels, and thus explained it after his weekend at Donington Park: “Overall, it has been a difficult weekend. On Friday we tried something different with the settings just to check a few things and gather information, but it didn't work as expected, so we went back to a more basic setting. We were able to achieve a top ten result, but honestly, this is not what we are aiming for. We need to improve from now on, because we really want to do better, of course. ”
