The Barça does not count on Hanga

He has been with the team since 2017 and has one more year on his contract, but Jasikevicius does not have him. Several Euroleague teams have shown interest.

Barcelona moves, like all the greats of Europe, in order to configure its squad for next season. He has just finished a brilliant course in which he has added the League and the Cup, a national double that he has not achieved since 2011. The great pity, and the great challenge for next season, has to be the Euroleague. Sarunas Jasikevicius' team started as one of the favorites for the title, was the best in the regular league, beat Milan in the semifinals but lost in the grand final, in a duel against Efes in which they had options until the last moments.

There are important unknowns, but also certainties of the first magnitude such as the renewal of Cory Higgins and the signing of the Turkish center Sertac Sanli. In the starting chapter, it is taken for granted that Víctor Claver and Leo Westermann will not follow, who barely had a leading role in the decisive weeks of the competition. Both have a contract but it is negotiated with them so that they are free. More surprising is another exit that, according to Catalunya Radio, seems inevitable although there is also one more year of contract in between: Adam Hanga.

The 32-year-old Hungarian forward had been at Barça since 2017, a stretch in which he has been a very important player both on the pitch and in the locker room. Exceptional defender and versatile in attack, which even allowed him to reconvert to base when injuries (Heurtel, Pangos ...) left the team led by Svetislav Pesic in a dramatic situation. In the last Euroleague, Hanga has averaged 4.6 points, 2.2 rebounds and a PIR of 4.8 in less than 16 minutes per night on the court. As the season progressed, it could be seen that Jasikevicius did not have the Hungarian among his principals, and only resorted to him when other plans failed or as an energy player to change negative dynamics. The point is that Hanga continues to be a very useful player with a large market, and in fact Mundo Deportivo assures that several important Euroleague teams have already taken an interest in him. This opens the possibility of at least morbid speculation: Real Madrid is looking for a forward to finish off its squad, so it could be interested in Hanga, since other options that it has valued, such as Nikola Kalinic or Ioannis Papapetrou, seem ruled out. The first has been included by Valencia Basket and the second placed very high financial demands on the white team.

So could there be a new Heurtel case? The fact is that Barça wants to get rid of a player with a contract and Real Madrid has a need in the position that player occupies, as it happened with the sainete of the French base, who will play in Madrid from the next season. With the termination negotiations still ahead, Barça could try to ensure that Hanga's departure will be in another direction, outside the ACB, to avoid what could end up being a very delicate matter.
