Stick for English tennis: Konta, set aside because of COVID

Wimbledon announced this Sunday that Johanna Konta, the only British seed in the women's team, will not be able to play as a "close contact" of a positive case.

Johanna Konta, the only British seed in the Wimbledon women's team, 27th favorite, was excluded from the tournament this Sunday as she was considered a "close contact" of a positive case for COVID-19.

Konta, who was to play in the first round on Tuesday against the Czech Katerina Siniakova, will have to spend ten days in solitary confinement under UK government law. His position will be occupied by a repechage player from the previous one, the Chinese Yafan Wang.

Konta, a semifinalist at the Grass Grand Slam in 2017, is the second player to drop from the tournament due to an issue related to the coronavirus pandemic, after Danish double player Frederik Nielsen.
