Pogacar already shines before the Tour

The Slovenian won the second stage alone after a prodigious attack at the last scoring point. He has seven wins this season.

Tadej Pogacar stopped his calendar dead after conquering Liège-Bastoña-Liège at the end of April, the first Monument in his record. And a month and a half later, the UAE Team Emirates rider has shown that the rest has been great for him: victory and leadership in the second stage of the Tour of Slovenia. The race, despite not enjoying a stellar participation, will be the last test for Pogacar before starting his defense of the Tour de France (June 26 to July 18), and there is no doubt that after this new exhibition, his preparation is going windy aft.

The Slovenian star capped off a UAE choral performance. After controlling the escape, the Emirates team demonstrated their physical and tactical superiority over the rest of the squads. At the last scoring point of the day, the Svetina stop (2nd), Pogacar opened the gas and left alone. From behind, Ulissi, Polanc and Majka acted as blotter against any attempt to hunt down their leader. Pogacar crowned with almost 1 minute of advantage, and both on the descent and on the final slope that led to the goal, he extended his advantage until 1:22 compared to Mohoric, who finished second.

It is Pogacar's seventh victory so far this season (24 as a professional at 22 years old) in just 24 days of competition, something stratospheric. His record of victories in a course dates back to 2020, when he achieved nine, so much must be twisted his year so that he does not exceed that figure by margin. Tour champion's first message: he's smarter than ever ... 444 444
