Lobato wins again to the joy of Euskaltel

The Basque team sprinter won the first stage of the Portuguese Tour of the Alentejo. The trebujenero did not win since 2018.

Second victory for Euskaltel Euskadi in 2021. Juanjo Lobato, one of the cyclists with World Tour experience called to lead this project, once again overpowered a victory, something he had not achieved on the road since 2018. The sprinter from Trebujena was the fastest in the arrival at the first goal of the Portuguese Tour of Alentejo. A sprint in which all the participating Spanish teams were represented: third was David González (Caja Rural), fourth came Aristi (also from Euskaltel), Sanz gave fifth place to Kern Pharma; and Molenaar and Peñalver, the seventh and ninth to Burgos-BH.

"It is a very important victory for the team and for me," said the Andalusian, also leader of the Portuguese race, who acknowledged that the help of the team and his teammate Aristi were key "to arrive well placed and launch the sprint" . This is the second victory for the team after Antonio Soto in the Vuelta a Murcia in a key season for the formation, which will return to La Vuelta.
