The new Fernandinho de Guardiola

Sander Berge, a 23-year-old Norwegian midfielder from Sheffield, is the favorite to join City and replace the 35-year-old Brazilian.

Fernandinho is about to turn 36 years old. The Brazilian midfielder ends his contract at the end of this season and Guardiola is already thinking of a successor. According to Voetbal 24, Manchester City has also identified its objective in the Premier, although in this case it is a Norwegian player, a teammate of Haaland in the national team. This is Sander Berge, 23-year-old midfielder from Sheffield, who ends his contract in 2024 and was having a good season until his operation last December.

Berge arrived in England in 2020 and has undergone rapid evolution. Sheffield hired him from Genk and the Belgian club saved 20 percent of a future sale, knowing the potential of the player and that he was a talent that was going to exploit in the Premier. Sheffield paid for him a figure of around 24 million euros. Berge has been international for Norway 24 times, the senior team with which he debuted at the age of 19.

City are one of the teams interested in Haaland and are now looking to another Norwegian. Only Guardiola and Begiristáin know if it is a mere coincidence. Berge currently has a market value of 18 million, according to the specialized site Transfermarkt. A loss for Sheffield in the Premier League would make the transfer easier, reportedly.
