Raúl Fernández is not just any rookie and already leads

The Madrilenian achieved the best time in FP2, improving by half a second the best time of last week and taking half a second to the first of his pursuers.

Impressive staging by Raúl Fernández at the Doha GP. The Spaniard has just shown that he is not just any rookie in Moto2 and in just four days in the category he is already leading the times table, and with time included. The Madrilenian stopped the clock at 1: 58.541, which is half a second better than last weekend's reference time and which has served to put half a second on the first of his pursuers, Di Giannantonio.

The one from San Martín de la Vega already showed his intentions in his first race, with a good fifth place after riding for many laps in podium positions. The fall of the tires made him lose steam in the final section, something that he will learn to manage over time, but what there is no doubt is that with new rubber he begins to be as fast in the intermediate category as he was in Moto3, where he signed a whopping six poles and two wins last season.

Both the Red Bull KTM Ajo and his first thirteen pursuers have guaranteed, except for a huge surprise in FP3, their direct passage to Q2. Those chosen after what was seen on Friday are Fernández, Di Giannantonio, Gardner, Bezzecchi, Roberts, Ogura, Lowes, Vietti, Schrotter, Bulega, Manzi, Canet, Augusto Fernández and Beaubier. Further back they finished, and will almost certainly have to go through Q1, Vierge 15º, Navarro 17º, Arenas 24º and Garzó 25º.
