Philipsen defeats Bennett and Cavendish at the Scheldt GP

The Alpecin sprinter was the fastest of the chosen group, in which this time Deceuninck succumbed to Alpecin in their eighth win of 2021.

Jasper Philipsen was the winner of the 109th edition of the GP Schelde (Scheldeprijs), a classic in which the Belgian won the sprint in the chosen group. A prestigious triumph, for doing it in a renowned Belgian spring event and for how he did it, against two sprinters like Bennett and Cavendish, who this time could not give a new victory to a team as dominating in these races as Deceuninck. After Asgreen snatched the victory from Van der Poel, the Alpecin star, in the last Tour of Flanders, Philipsen took revenge and gave the eighth victory of the season to this formation that, despite being second class, was finds himself fighting to be the best structure on the scene in the UCI classification.

A race that had the casualties of the Trek and the Groupama due to coronavirus, and that had sections of strong winds and fans, and in which a group of about 30 runners was selected in which the Bora, with Ackermann, and the Deceuninck, with Bennett and Cavendish, as called to dominate the arrival. However, Philipsen was placed perfectly by two teammates who accompanied him on the court and was able to maintain the first place in the final stretch to confirm, at 23, as a huge sprinter capable of shining in tests like this guy of classics. After leaving samples with three great triumphs in 2020, including a stage in La Vuelta, the Belgian changed the UAE for the Alpecin, with which he made his debut this Wednesday in a big way.
