Kern Pharma returns after abandonment in Catalonia

The Spanish squad resumes competition next Saturday at the Indurain GP after leaving the Volta due to the detection of coronavirus cases in the team.

The UCI Pro Team of Kern Pharma resumes competition next Saturday at the Miguel Indurain Grand Prix after leaving the Volta a Catalunya due to the detection of positives for Covid-19 in its midst. It is a special race for the Navarrese team Kern Pharma because it is held at home and is the most important cycling race in Navarra.

In 2020, Estella's appointment was not held physically and the team led by Manolo Azcona and Juanjo Oroz promoted a virtual edition that brought together 676 participants. In 2021 it will mean his return to competition after leaving the Volta a Catalunya.

"For the Kern Pharma Team, the GP Miguel Indurain is the best. Estella's roads have seen this club pedal for 30 years, since Manolo Azcona founded it back in 1992. For him, to see his professional team play this race it will be a cause for emotion; and that is how we will all feel excited, from the first to the last hour of the day, "says Juanjo Oroz, head of the pharmaceutical group.

Starting and finishing in Estella, the 200 kilometers of the Miguel Indurain GP are dotted with climbs. The last of them, the climb to the Puy Sanctuary, is crowned just a kilometer and a half from the finish line on the Paseo de la Inmaculada. "It is a selective route that, given the high level of the peloton this Saturday, will lead to a fast and hard race. A select group will play for victory," predicts Juanjo Oroz. In the Kern Pharma team lineup, it will be composed of Roger Adrià, Sergio Araiz, Urko Berrade, Raúl García Pierna, Diego López Fuentes, José Félix Parra and Ibon Ruiz.
