El Rayo, 'giant killers' at home

The franjirrojos grow in their visits to the heavyweights: they won at the home of the first three (Espanyol, Mallorca and Almería) and tied at Sporting.

El-Rayo-'giant-killers'-at-home

Al Rayo likes challenges and has shown it by winning the heavyweights of the category in his own home. The franjirrojos have dressed as 'matagigantes' at home, beating Espanyol in Cornellà (2-3) with a spectacular comeback - they lost 2-0 in the 39th minute - to Mallorca in Son Moix (0-1) to open this season and Almería in the Mediterranean Games (0-1) this last day. Three victories against the top three finishers.

In spite of these triumphs, the irregularity has condemned Rayo, who has fired from the positions of direct promotion, today, to thirteen points. However, if they keep that sixth place, Iraola's men seem ready to fight in the playoff. And it is that the Vallecanos did not wrinkle in the fiefdom of their fellow promotion: they scratched a draw in extremis against Sporting in El Molinón (1-1) and only fell against Leganés in Butarque (1-0) .

Now, the main mission of Rayo is to preserve that place that gives access to the playoff and in the next few days it will receive two rivals who are on its heels. This Saturday, Girona - three points behind the franjirrojos - visits Vallecas (6:15 p.m.) and on Wednesday 14, Mirandés will do it - at eight (7:00 p.m.), in the match corresponding to matchday 31, postponed by the COVID outbreak of the red set. Also Ponferradina, which is four points behind the Madrid, is immersed in that fight.
