El Clásico awaits Pau Gasol 20 years later

Barça have to win so that Madrid does not sentence the first place. The whites arrive at the Palau very depleted, without Deck, who goes to the NBA, and without the injured Thompkins.

"And although I did not want to return, one always returns to the first love. (...) The snows of time silver my temple. Feeling that life is a breath, that 20 years is nothing," Gardel sang almost a century in that famous tango called Volver. And coming back has returned, not Gardel, but Pau Gasol, the best Spanish player of all time. The pivot will once again dress as a Barça player to play the Clásico 20 years later, the one that fired him from the ACB on June 21, 2001 with the League title (3-0 against Madrid in the old white Sports City) and an overwhelming MVP heading to the NBA.

Gasol is ready for the comeback, but Jasikevicius has the last word today. If, as it seems, his former teammate and now coach gives the go-ahead, Barcelona will register him in the League before 2:00 p.m. It will be his second performance in 48 hours after two years fighting a serious left foot injury. On Friday against Bayern he had 9 points and 4 rebounds in 13 minutes less than three months after his 41st birthday (on July 6). And he returns in a big way, to the Palau del "sweet memory", in a decisive Classic in the race for the lead in the best joint season of the two giants of our basketball. Never before at this point have they accumulated 52 victories and only 4 defeats in the League (27-1 and 25-3, respectively), 92.8% of victories.

If Madrid win, the first place will be (almost) theirs (and more if they exceed the average: 82-87 on December 27 at the WiZink Center); if Barça win, there will be a League before the playoff pending a new white stumble with 7 games to go. Laso's men, without Deck already (Oklahoma awaits him) and without Thompkins (knee discomfort), cling to Tavares, and the old guard: Llull, Carroll, Rudy… let's see Reyes. And to Laprovittola and Causeur, great on Thursday in Istanbul. They have only lost once in the entire League, with those of Jasikevicius, who stumbled in the Super Cup and then have chained four consecutive wins in direct duels, including that of the Cup final for a balance this year of 4-1 in favor of the culés.

Real revolts against the threat of a change in the market cycle: Heurtel, Poirier, Henry ... The Catalans have finished leaders of the Euroleague and come from an inconsequential defeat for them against Bayern with Mirotic, Higgins and Oriola absent due to rest, but that has sent Madrid to collide with the ogre Efes in the quarterfinals. Barça is a super favorite, although you have to play it. Let's see Gasol.
