The Volta del Centenario ended this Sunday in Motjuic with a podium whose photo will be remembered for a long time. Three runners from Ineos taking over the box to show a sample of the enormous strength of a team full of stars. Adam Yates took overall with Richie Porte, second, and Geraint Thomas, third. All three with the British team jersey. The first two, signings of this 2021 to recover that cycling throne that the Jumbo and the UAE discuss. They only lacked the stage, but that had another illustrious name, that of the best 'hunter' of recent times, the Belgian Thomas de Gendt (Lotto Soudal) .

The last stage of this Volta had two races, for the stage and for the general. The first was carried out by a group of 32 escapees, among which high-quality names such as Urán, De la Cruz, Soler (accompanied by his companions Samitier and Cataldo) leaked ... In it, two cyclists of tronío also marched. Great when a win is at stake: Thomas de Gendt and Matej Mohoric. The two left and opened enough space to know that the victory was theirs in the tough and technical Montjuic circuit. Mohoric opted to open a gap on the descent, with absolutely spectacular descents that left De Gendt cut off. But the Belgian recovered and saved his card for the last climb, in which he left alone to raise his arms for the 16th time in his career and complete an astonishing record: 15 of them have been on the World Tour.

Movistar, on the attack

The race for the leadership had only one argument: see if Movistar, who had Alejandro Valverde in fourth place, was able to dismount Ineos, which not only had the three occupants of the podium, but also Carapaz to aid in defense. Almost nothing. But the telephone team tried with the entire team at their service. And there were moments in which Porte seemed to go through some trouble, when Valverde, at the wheel of a companion, accelerated in the ascent to the castle. His attempts served to give some emotion, but the reality is that the Ineos did not have cracks and completed his triplet. A photo for history ... and a serious warning for this season. The British want to return to their throne.
