"United took Cavani at the wrong time"

Mark Hughes believes the Red Devils need to sign another forward. "They need the Cavani from five years ago, when he was in his pomp," he adds.

Edinson Cavani arrived this summer for free after being released from PSG to compete with Anthony Martial for Manchester United's 9th place. Despite the fact that the French started with an advantage, the Uruguayan has managed to cut a lot of distance even starting in most of the games from the bench. However, one of the positions to reinforce that sounds louder within United for next summer is the front, with Haaland and Kane as visible heads of the hunt, and that line follows Mark Hughes, without a team since his dismissal at Southampton in December 2018.

The former Saints coach, in addition to Manchester City, Fulham or the Welsh national team, believes that the Red Devils need to address the addition of a striker. Hughes has high regard for Cavani, but understands that he has arrived at Old Trafford "at the wrong time". "United have a lot of quality at the top, like Rashford and Greenwood, but maybe they need Cavani from five years ago, when he was in his pomp. Maybe they got hold of him at the wrong time," he said on 'Monday Night Football', program by 'Sky Sports'.

Although he wanted to make it clear that he does not intend to undermine the top scorer in the history of PSG. "He is still a fantastic center forward. When I see him play in this team, I think he gives them an objective to focus on and they have the confidence to give him the ball so that things happen around him," he added.Similar profiles

"The reality is that the other players that I have mentioned (Rashford and Greenwood), besides Martial, want to play positions away from the center. Rashford and Martial prefer to play on the left, Greenwood on the right and although they have all played at some point in the center gives the feeling that none of them want to be there, "he added. Too much player with a similar profile and only one trained to be the team's offensive reference.

In addition, when asked by Haaland and Kane, he said that "they are the type of players that they need", although everything will depend on "how much skill United has to go to the market and get hold of them." The fight for the English and the Norwegian will be titanic, with footballing transatlantic players such as Chelsea, Manchester City and Real Madrid (the whites only interested in Haaland) in the fight to win one of the cracks. Cavani has 7 goals in 1,224 minutes, the same amount as Martial, but in almost half the time (2,199 '). In the last match, against Chelsea, Solskjaer did not line up either Martial or Cavani, opting for the mobility of the Rashford-Greenwood-James trident. It is clear that something does not quite fit the Norwegian ...
