The long winter

This Saturday, March 6, the first tests of the premier category start in Qatar, more than three months after the end of the 2020 season.

The-long-winter
A winter has never been so long for MotoGP, but at last the action returns with the long-awaited test in Qatar, the first of two scheduled before the start of the World Championship on March 28. The grid has been inactive since last November 22, when the Portuguese GP ended the 2020 season. The pandemic forced the cancellation of the February tests in Sepang and the pilots are back in charge today in the first of the two scheduled days in this first Qatar trial. There is a second from 15 to 17, but none is as eagerly awaited as this one. And, despite the absence of Marc Márquez, due to injury, there is much interesting to see ...

Suzuki: keep the line

The Hamamatsu factory defends its title for the first time twenty years after the last time, when it did it with Roberts Jr in 2001. Now it is Mir who occupies the throne and, if in his second season he was able to win the title, what will not be able to do in the third. For those who write these lines, he is the number one candidate for the title, although he knows better than anyone that he will have a wide list of rivals. The first is his partner Rins, who wants revenge. In favor of both, they have the Suzuki, the most balanced bike on the grid.

Yamaha: forget about 2020

The fretboard brand had it all to win last season. They were, a priori, the great beneficiaries of Marc Márquez's injury, and they were the brand that celebrated the most victories, thanks to the triumphs of Morbidelli (3), Quartararo (3) and Maverick (1), but they lacked a consistency that they will search from this test. One of their great attractions is keeping Rossi in their ranks, although this time in the satellite team's box.Honda: Pol in the absence of Marc

As long as Marc does not reappear due to the damn injury to the humerus of his right arm, the pressure and the responsibility of giving joy to the golden wing falls on Pol Espargaró. Hailing from KTM, he's faced with the opportunity of a lifetime and he knows there will be no more excuses for not being in the fight for the title. Against him, he plays that the Honda is a very critical bike, especially from the front. Bradl once again substitutes 93 and in the satellite team both Álex Márquez and Nakagami have official material.

Ducati: youth to power

Ducati has rejuvenated this season in his official box a lot, 15 years. Changing Dovizioso and Petrucci for Miller and Bagnaia is a complete renovation and, if it works, the best proof that betting on young values is a guarantee of success. Borgo Panigale's house also gives the opportunity to Martín, Bastianini and Marini, who have joined their two satellite teams from Moto2. Complete the Italian training Zarco, an old fox without the need for adaptation. Qatar is a great fan of Desmosedici.

KTM: already one more

The best that can be said about KTM, after its brilliant 2020, is that it is already one of the leading factories on the grid. Three victories celebrated last year. Two were from Oliveira, who makes the jump to the official team, and one from Binder, who remains in it. Pol's departure has been covered with Petrucci, who brings a lot of experience and who forms a partner with Lecuona in the satellite team.

Aprilia: last in line

Aprilia took a step forward by completely changing her bike, but she has the problem that others also evolve. In addition, you do not have satellite equipment, which is a disadvantage to grow in your case. He keeps Aleix Espargaró in the box and Lorenzo Savadori arrives. It would have been a hoot for them to have Dovizioso or Crutchlow.
