The Alpecin Fenix will not participate in the 100th edition of the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya due to three cases of coronavirus in its coaching staff and due to the desire not to put its runners and other cyclists and participants in the Catalan round at risk, which will take place from March 22 to 28.

"The Alpecin Fenix team and the organization of the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya have made the decision not to participate in the 100th edition of the race to comply with the protocols to prevent the spread of COVID-19," the organization said.

A total of three members of the Belgian team's 'staff' have tested positive for coronavirus and, to prevent the spread of the virus, they have chosen to isolate all the 'staff' of the team that was supposed to assist the Volta and put them in quarantine .

"Given the impossibility of replenishing an entire staff for the Volta, finally, and according to the organizers, the Belgian team will not be present at the centenary Volta", confirmed the team.

The Volta Ciclista a Catalunya wishes a quick recovery to the positive staff members, and wishes to see the team again in the 101st edition of the race, in the year 2022.
