The 100th edition of the Volta a Catalunya will be lived without an audience

The race, which will take place from March 22 to 28, 2021, will be held under special conditions in order to adapt to all the protocols of the pandemic.

According to the General Secretary of Sports and Physical Activity, the Volta thus starts a communication campaign encouraging the entire population to follow an edition as special as 100 on television and the news media, and announces that it is expanding the broadcasting of the retransmission of the stages: there will be two hours of daily television coverage in the seven planned stages available to televisions with broadcasting rights. Great news that will help no one miss any details of the test.

Following strict protocols, the start and finish areas will be delimited by fences and the public will not be able to access to avoid crowds and preserve the race bubble. Among other measures contemplated in the protocols, the refreshment areas along the route will not be announced either.

All the accredited personnel of the bubble must carry a previous negative PCR of 72 hours to be able to collect the accreditation and be able to be present at the Volta, as the accredited press that will follow the entire week of the race. In the same way, excellent hand hygiene, the mandatory use of a mask and the maintenance of social distance whenever possible will be required. The runners also pass their respective PCR before traveling to the race, according to the UCI mark, and all press conferences after the podium, except for the flash interview of television coverage, will be via telematics.

At the protocol level, social distance will be maintained both in the ribbon cutting and on the podium, and the runners will not make the gesture of signing before the stage in the control of signatures, but the visual verification by the commissioners. The organization of the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya has made a great organizational effort to adapt to all the measures set out in the protocols, especially at the level of assemblies and accommodation, where the teams will also have their own bubble.After a year of absence due to the pandemic, the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya returns in 2021 with a luxurious participation, with the best cyclists in the world: Alejandro Valverde, Enrique Mas, Marc Soler, Chris Froome, Richard Carapaz, Marc Hischi David de la Cruz or Thomas de Gendt are just some of the runners who have already confirmed their presence in the race.
