Supernatural Van der Poel

The Dutchman takes the classic of sterrato based on portentous attacks. Alaphilippe and a great Bernal, those who could see them from closer and completed the podium.

A series of prodigious attacks, of extraordinary power, allowed Mathieu van der Poel to conquer the Strade Bianche for the first time in his career and add the 29th victory in his record. An incontestable victory because the Dutchman was in charge of proving that he was the strongest cyclist present in the Italian sterrato event, and he did it against names like the rainbow Alpahilippe and Egan Bernal, who completed the podium after losing on the last climb , but also before Van Aert, the young Pidcock or Tadej Pogacar, who despite his great career could only contemplate the power of the Alpecin cyclist, who stood alone at the finish line in Siena.

A race that soon saw its first great selection, still 68 km from the finish line. Alaphilippe was already thinking of moving the tree by then and made the Deceuninck shoot. The movement served to drastically cut the squad and also to encourage adventurers among whom was Gonzalo Serrano (Movistar) who walked a few kilometers in the lead. But behind the favorites were already on the move and in each section of sterrato there was an exam to see who could keep up. On many occasions, with Alaphilippe as the protagonist, and thus the group of chosen ones was formed with, in addition to the world champion, Van der Poel, Van Aert, Pogacar, Bernal and Pidcock from Ineos and a Michael Gogl who managed to sneak in there. Young Quin Simmons was also there, but a breakdown at the worst moment (then he also went to the ground) ruled him out.

Among them the victory would be played, despite the fact that a chasing group with Fuglsang, Wellens or Pello Bilbao, among others, came close to contacting. But the hardness and the strong head rhythm made every meter cost a world to cut it. And so Wout van Aert also lived it in his flesh. At 24 km from the finish line, another attempt by Alaphilippe uncovered the weakness of the Jumbo rider, who seemed to lack some rhythm in what was his debut in 2021, against more rolling rivals. The Belgian, and the young Pidcock, managed to reconnect with a lot of effort ... and with the certainty that they already knew each other less strong.

And so it was shown in the absence of 12 km, when Van der Poel launched his bet. A tremendous start when the sterrato spiked up seemed to leave him only in the lead, but Alaphilippe and Egan Bernal knew how to regulate and connect with the Dutchman, who did manage to leave the aforementioned Van Aert and Pidcock on the way, but also Pogacar and Gogl. The movement defined the podium, but the winner remained to be known.

So Van der Poel, already on the ascent to the Siena finish line, used the same recipe and started the bike again. Standing, displaying his enormous plant, he attacked again with violence and then Alaphilippe and Bernal succumbed and could only congratulate themselves to accompany the Dutch prodigy on the podium.
