Roglic and Tao, the main contenders for Paris-Nice

The 'Race to the Sun' presented its route and confirmed the participation of the double winner of La Vuelta a España and the winner of the Giro d'Italia.

The Paris-Nice 2021, which will be held from April 7 to 14, has unveiled the route of the 'Race to the Sun' and confirmed the presence, among others, of Primoz Roglic and Tao Geoghegan Hart, two of the contenders for victory in the general. This edition of the gala event will have eight stages, three uphill finishes and a time trial included, and a total distance of 1,239 kilometers between Saint-Cyr-L'École and Nice, the historic end of the event.

To begin, a first stage of steep slopes and 166 kilometers, starting and finishing in Saint-Cyr-L'École. In the second and fifth stages there will be opportunities for sprinters, with the presence of specialists such as Sam Bennett, Michael Matthews, John Degenkolb, Giacomo Nizzolo, Nacer Bouhanni and Bryan Coquard.

As for the fight for the general, he will start in the third stage, with an individual 'time' of 14.4 kilometers in Gien, with a final slope. The next day, a 'break legs' day with seven mountain heights and a high finish in Chiroubles (1st category) .

The 'queen stage' could be the seventh and penultimate, with 166.5 kilometers between Nice and Valdeblore La Colmiane, a 1st-class pass of more than 16 kilometers at an average gradient of 6.2 percent. In addition, another 1st will be uploaded at the beginning of the day, such as Col de Vence.

Among the shortlist of candidates are the current champion of La Vuelta a España, the Slovenian Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma), and of the Giro d'Italia, the British Tao Geoghegan Hart (Ineos Grenadiers), as well as the defender of the event, Max Schachmann (Bora-Hansgrohe), or Jai Hindley (DSM), who hopes to be one of the surprises.
