Prado returns to competition with a victory

The Galician began his preseason in an international event in Italy, winning the race in his category.

Jorge Prado was one of many athletes who saw his ambitions truncated last year when he caught COVID-19. When he still had options to fight for what would have been his first MXGP world title, he had to leave the competition to recover and wait for a better moment to achieve his dream of also succeeding in the premier class of motocross.

Once his condition allowed it, the Galician focused on his preparation for the new season. First in Spain, following the instructions of his coach Mihel Zabala, and then in Italy, tuning his KTM 450 and riding as much as possible with it. A positive circumstance for him, since on previous occasions his preseason had been conditioned by injuries.

And this weekend it is time to check the result of so much effort. Prado has participated in the first round of the prestigious International Championship of Italy, held in Sardinia and with the presence of some prominent names in the specialty such as Febvre, Coldenhoff, Van Hoorebeck or Lupino.

The Spaniard has shown himself fit and as fast as ever. He was the best in training ahead of Febvre and he led the race in his category from start to finish, scoring a first victory of the preseason that Prado values very positively: “Last year I could not do a good preseason because of the injury and now we have been able to work hard, both physically and in setting up the bike. The result is a consequence of that work, but there is still much to do ”.

In the great final heat, in which the MX2 riders also participated, Prado was heading towards a new victory. However, just five minutes from the end of the race, a breakdown in his KTM forced him to retire. In any case, Prado's exhibition is symptomatic of his recovery, feelings that he will try to repeat next week in the second round of this event.
