Pogacar: "With that power, Van der Poel can fight for the general in Tirreno"

The Slovenian rider from UAE Emirates surrendered to the Dutchman before the start of the Tirreno-Adriatico, where he starts as one of the big favorites in the general standings.

Tadej Pogacar arrives in Tirreno-Adriatico with the desire to continue adding success after a great start to the season in which he conquered the UAE Tour general and where he managed to resist alongside the great classics at Strade Bianche. "I was very satisfied with my performance on the Strade Bianche. It was a very tough race where we were very fast all day," said the Slovenian cyclist.

In Tirreno-Adriatico Pogacar will meet again with Mathieu Van der Poel, brand new champion of the Strade Bianche and whom the Slovenian does not rule out for the fight for the general classification. "It was very impressive to see Mathieu attack like that almost when we were reaching the end. So, with that power, for sure he can also fight for the overall in Tirreno-Adriatico, but we'll see."

Pogacar also took the opportunity to define his calendar for this season, confirming his presence in the Tour and the Games and leaving the door open to La Vuelta, where he was third overall in 2019. "This year I will do the Tour de France, the Games Olympics and possibly the Vuelta, so next year will be the opportunity to come to the Giro ".

The Slovenian also confessed his great experience in Italy, a country in which he had not yet competed since he made the leap to professionals with UAE Emirates. "I had only participated in under-23 and junior races in Italy. I love racing here, the food is great and the fans are fantastic. He arrived in good shape. I hope to achieve good results and fight for the victory and we also have a team with a lot of quality "
