Pau Gasol: "Looking forward to getting home to start training with Barça"

This Tuesday, the Catalan player showed his desire to start working under Jasikevicius and thanked Navarro for his work.

Pau Gasol affirmed this Tuesday that he is looking forward to returning to Spain to join the ranks of Barça, to which he returns 20 years later to play the final leg of the Euroleague and the Endesa League. "Looking forward to getting home to start training with @FCBbasket. I want to thank Juan Carlos Navarro for the work and the trust of Saras Jasikevicius who have made it possible for my return to be a reality," Gasol writes on his Twitter account. The 40-year-old center who has not played since March 2019 due to a left foot injury, has signed a contract with Barça until June 30, 2021. Gasol played in the Barça first team from 1999 to 2001 , before going to the NBA, where he has been for the last 18 seasons.

In the American professional league he has played 1,362 matches, has won two championship rings (2009 and 2010) and has played the All Star six times. Negotiations between both parties began last summer, but were not successful. Gasol had to undergo surgery in March 2019 for a fracture of the tarsal scaphoid in his left foot and, despite the fact that months later he returned to play with the Bucks, he relapsed from his injury and could not even make his debut with the Portland Trail Blazers, with those who signed later.

The idea of the Catalan pivot is to play a few months with Barça to enter competition and be able to play the Tokyo Olympics, which would be the fifth of his career, and then retire permanently.
