New divorce: Solans breaks up with his co-pilot

The former junior world champion has announced that he will not continue with Mauro Barreiro, his lifelong partner.

Follow the wave of divorces between drivers and co-drivers. Now it is Jan Solans who has announced his break with Mauro Barreiro, his lifelong partner. The former junior world champion in 2019, who has just joined Citroën, has not revealed who will sit on his right this season.

"Mauro Barreiro and I are not going to be together this season," Solans announced on his social networks. “Since I started in this world, Mauro has trusted me and he has been an essential factor in my sports career. Thanks to his great professionalism we have achieved national titles and a World Championship. Thank you Mau for everything you have taught me and what you have done for me, since together we have lived very good moments but also difficult moments and you have always been by my side to support me. This season it will not be possible to continue together, but hopefully one day we will join our paths again. ”

Solans met Barreiro when he was 16 years old and competing in autocross. At first, it was the Catalan who started as the Galician's co-pilot, to later change the seats. The zenith of their career came when in 2019 together they achieved the junior world title. A common story that is now coming to an end, without Solans having revealed who will be his new co-driver in the Citroën C3 Rally2 that he will drive this season.

First there were Dani Sordo and Carlos del Barrio, then Thierry Neuville and Nicolas Gilsoul, and more recently Sebastien Loeb and Daniel Elena. The wave of divorces between drivers and co-drivers seems to have no end. A week and a half before the start of the national season in the Sierra Morena Rally, the last illustrious separation has jumped.
