Ferrari changes to red

The Scuderia presents the SF21 to be piloted by Sainz and Leclerc. They release nose, front spoiler, rear suspension, gearbox, engine, color ...

Ferrari-changes-to-red

Smear and new account, literal. Ferrari presented its SF21 for the season that is already beginning and between its evolutions and new approaches, not even the red one is saved. The car that Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc will drive shows new lines and a nose with a certain Red Bull air stands out that moves away from the narrow paradigm that Mercedes invented. They do not show the engine, which goes inside, but it has been completely redesigned to correct the step back of its unfortunate 2020. "We did not forget last year, but we all want to honor Enzo Ferrari and we will show a winning spirit in 2021", John summarized Elkann, President of the Company.

But the most striking novelties incur in the aesthetic section: the traditional red blends with the garnet at the rear of the car, in homage to the livery of the first Ferrari F1, the 125S, which they already used in the past Tuscan GP . "Bordeaux is a tribute to the first Ferrari, but it gradually changes and transforms into modern red. From the past, we are heading towards our future," explains team boss Mattia Binotto. To that is added the fluorine green on the engine cover, in the strip that corresponds to the Philip Morris tobacco box.

New gearbox and rear suspension

Technically, the rear has been modified using the two tokens available by regulation. They have developed all the available areas. "We designed a new gearbox and a new rear suspension, and together with the effort of the power unit department, the rear axle has been narrowed," says Enrico Cardile, head of chassis. It aims at two goals, "regain downforce and reduce air resistance." Meanwhile, it introduces the new front wing "which works in conjunction with the new nose concept", although "the chassis and front suspension remain from the SF1000. Enrico Gualtieri, at the head of the project, speaks about the engine: "We have worked to make the car as efficient as possible and we further developed the hybrid system." By far the car that has changed the most from its predecessor of all those presented in 2021.

The event was virtual, with a 15-minute video that preceded the photos distributed later. At the end of February they already made an official presentation of the team with a massive press conference. Meanwhile, the Italians' garage in Bahrain remained tightly closed, like that of the rest of the teams, waiting for the pre-season tests to begin this Friday in Bahrain. It will be three intensive days to premiere the SF21 and its grid companions, two weeks before the first grand prix of the year takes place. And at Ferrari it is only worth showing a change in trend from day one.

Sainz and Leclerc debut it this Thursday

Ferrari will have a 100-kilometer filming day this Thursday at the Sakhir circuit, so somehow they start the tests a day before the competition to check that the assembly of the car has been perfect. Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc will pilot. "I love it, the color seems darker compared to last year", says the Monegasque to the Madrilenian. "We did not expect the green", "it was a change of the last minute". "The car is getting ready and we will do the first laps on Thursday, about ten laps each. On Friday we will start the tests," adds Sainz.

"Carlos has integrated very quickly and Charles already feels at home, he is very aware of the role he plays in the team on and off the track. The two get along well and that can only bring benefits to the team", emphasizes Laurent Mekies, sports director. Ferrari transmits illusion. The asphalt will dictate sentence.
