Djokovic and Nadal, in a Monte Carlo tournament without an audience

The tournament will be with empty stands and will feature the top three in the ATP ranking: Djokovic, Medvedev and Nadal. As of April 10, Nadal will seek his 12th crown.

The three best tennis players in the world ranking, the Serbian Novak Djokovic, the Russian Daniil Medvedev and the Spanish Rafael Nadal will be in the next edition of the Monte Carlo Masters 1,000, which will be played behind closed doors due to the health crisis from next April 10 organizers said Thursday.

The 114th edition of the tournament, which Nadal has won eleven times, will feature 9 of the top 10 in the ranking for his return to the circuit, after last year's cancellation due to covid. The organizers indicated that a sanitary protocol will be implemented so that the tournament takes place in the best conditions, in consultation with the French and Monegasque authorities.

For the second year, they explain, the Monte Carlo grandstands will be without an audience, but its organizers are pleased that the competition that traditionally opens the European clay court calendar can take place.
