Blaak is crowned in the Strade with Mavi García very active

The Dutchwoman beat Longo-Borghini on the final climb. Mavi was in the cuts but succumbed in the end. Van Vleuten (Movistar) was left without a podium, fourth.

Chantal Van den Broeck-Blaak conquered the women's Strade Bianche with a fantastic victory at the Siena finish line. The Dutchwoman left in the last kilometers with the Italian Elisa Longo Borghini, the two cyclists who finally surprised the group in which a dozen riders marched with almost all the big names. Blaak, with the peace of mind of bringing her teammate Van der Breggen into the group of pursuers, was able to carry out her strategy to perfection: she left the responsibility of the cut to Longo and finished it off on the final climb. To the delight of his team, SD Worx, Van der Breggen completed the podium, third.

Blaak took the glory to expand a track record full of classics: Amstel, Gante Wevelgem, Flanders, Omloop ... In a test in which there was Spanish protagonism with Mavi García (Alé BTC). The champion of Spain, second in the 2020 edition, was very active throughout the race, filtering through the cuts and taking part in the breaks that she led the way during the event. She was also present in the group of 15 runners who contested the victory, although the effort made ended up taking its toll and she entered the finish line 13th.

Mavi fell off the hook when Movistar's new star, Annemiek van Vleuten, played his cards just over 10km to go. The Dutch, who was defending her 2020 victory, was also part of the chosen group and tried 12 km with an attack that only Marianne Vos responded, but that did not come to fruition because the rest of the applicants organized to hunt them down. Still, he tried on the final climb to sneak onto the podium and finished in fourth place.
