Bennett reigns in nervousness

The Irishman from Deceuninck is the first Paris-Nice leader after winning a very nervous sprint. Falls day with an illustrious victim, Richie Porte.

Sam Bennett proved in the first stage of Paris-Nice that he is perhaps the best pure sprinter today. He won with enormous authority and took the lead in an arrival in which he faced the great elite of the specialty: Demare, Pedersen, Ackermann ... So many applicants that the nervousness in the last kilometers was enormous and even caused a lot of in the central part of the group. But Deceuninck, on a Sunday in which he also won the GP Larciano with Vansevenant, was able to position his quick man to circumvent the obstacles, which in the final metrops gave a display of power and skill.

It was the outcome of a day full of mishaps, with several crashes in the final stretch and an illustrious victim, Richie Porte. The veteran Australian runner, who wore the Ineos jersey in his second stage in the structure, suffered a fall that, despite his efforts to continue in the race, forced him to abandon. For the rest, the stage featured a getaway in which a legend and the future of Lotto Soudal (Gilbert and Oldani) met, accompanied by Anthony Perez (Cofidis), Lawless (Ineos), and Doubey (Direct Energie). But, in a race in which many of the best sprinters in the peloton have gathered, there were many interests, neither that escape nor subsequent attempts would come to fruition. This Monday, second stage with a profile that is flat again ... and dangerous, especially if the threat of wind is fulfilled.
