Barty and Svitolina meet in the Miami semifinals

The Australian struggled to beat Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka in three sets, while the Ukrainian barely struggled against Latvian Anastasija Sevastova.

The dispute of the first two quarter-final matches of the WTA 1,000 in Miami has left us a semi-final of a high level in which the first favorite for the title, the Australian Ashleigh Barty, and the fifth seed, the Ukrainian Elina will face Svitolina.

Barty, number 1 in the WTA ranking, suffered to seal her place in the semifinals after beating Belarusian Aryna Sbaalenka in three sets 6-4, 6-7 (5) and 6-3 after two hours and 16 minutes of play .

Barty was very solid in the first set and, with a break in the ninth game, managed to close the first set 6-4. However, Sabalenka knew how to resist in the second and was more effective in the tie-break to force the third set, where Barty again broke Sabalenka's serve in the eighth game so as not to fail with his serve and take the match.

The Australian will now face the Ukrainian Elina Svitolina in the semifinals, who beat the Latvian Anastasija Sevastova 6-3 6-2 without too much trouble after just over an hour of play.Svitolina, who conceded numerous opportunities with her serve (gave up three breaks), was intractable to the rest, breaking Sevastova's serve up to six times, which failed to react to get back into the fight for the match.
