The first edition of the women's tour of the Basque Country-Itzulia will not finally be run this year, although it will be possible to compete in the San Sebastián Classic in the women's category. The OCETA company, which organizes both the return to the Basque Country and the Classical, has reported in a statement that its initial intention was to organize the first edition of the Itzulia Women and not celebrate the Classical, since the latter coincided on dates with the Women's Tour.

OCETA had planned to stop organizing the Classical, move the date to spring, extend the number of days and turn it into a women's return to the Basque Country. However, this year the suspension of the women's Tour has already been announced, so the date is free and OCETA has decided to keep it in this year's Classic, which will be held in summer, on the same day as the men's.

"We can anticipate that they will share part of the route, although there may be changes compared to the last edition," explained the person in charge of the race, Julián Eraso. Despite the cancellation of the 2021 edition of the Itzulia Women, the organization maintains the hope of resuming the project and celebrating it in 2022, although it will depend on whether the Classic coincides on dates with the Women's Tour. "We know that it will not be easy, but the Basque Country and women's cycling deserve such a race and we will continue working until we achieve it," said Eraso.
