The Italian way of Landa

The Basque from Bahrain prepares a start to the campaign in the Italian tests that will lead him to his great goal of the year: the Giro d'Italia.

Mikel Landa will start his professional season on Wednesday. It will be the second in the Bahrain, which is now named Victorious instead of McLaren. His debut will be at the Laigueglia Trophy in Italy, where he will coincide with Pello Bilbao, Omar Fraile, Pinot, Kwiatkowski and with the Euskaltel Euskadi himself that he presides over.

This is a 203 km test. with Cima Panavenna as the main scoring level and a final circuit that requires four laps to go through the climbs of Capo Mele and Colla Micheri. The race runs through Italian Liguria. Landa's idea was to debut this year in the Vuelta a Andalucía, initially scheduled for February 17-21 but which has been postponed until May.

The Alava rider will take advantage of the following days to inspect some stages of the Giro d'Italia that he also intends to run between 8 and 30 May. Although it had been speculated that he would be in the Volta a Catalunya, after Laigueglia the Industria-Artigianato Grand Prize will run on Sunday, March 7, the Itzulia between April 5 and 10 and the Giro itself. Their presence at the Estella Grand Prix, days before the Tour of the Basque Country, is not ruled out.

One of the great objectives of the year will also be the Tour de France and he does not lose sight of the possibility that there will be Olympic Games in Tokyo and that it may be called. What is practically ruled out is the World Cup, since its characteristics (even with cobblestones) do not favor it and it does not seem feasible that it will dispute the Vuelta. In any case, the season is very long and any unforeseen event can cause plans and calendars to be changed. A fall and ... to change the step on the fly.

Landa takes advantage of these good weather days to train on the roads near Murguía, the town where he resides. He has also been concentrated in Tenerife for a few days and has tried to prepare an important year for him since, among other things, his relationship with his team ends. The management of the Euskadi Foundation has left it in the hands of his trusted men to focus body and soul on his campaign: Jesús Ezkurdia as General Manager of the structure and Jorge Azanza as Sports Director. Aitor Galdós is increasingly dedicated to the relationship with institutions and sponsorships.
